About Me

My name is Mrs. Good and I am an Early Childhood Educator.

I have a passion for developmentally appropriate early childhood education, with M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction, Early Childhood Education.

I am a licensed teacher in Arizona and New Mexico, both in K-8 and Early Childhood Education (ECE). My teaching experience includes:

  • 3 years in NM Public Pre-K, as a 5-Star rated educator;
  • 1 year teaching First Grade;
  • 5 years as a Kindergarten teacher;
  • Title I Reading Aide;
  • Volunteered for many years in the classrooms of my five children;
  • Homeschooled two of my children in middle school.

Why Homeschool?

Public education is in trouble. Kids are not achieving as much as they could. Classes are too large and complex. There are disruptive, and even violent, students in every classroom and meaningful consequences and placements are not being used to curb the behaviors. Fully inclusive practices are not in compliance with IDEA, hurting both special education and general education student progress, causing trauma, and forcing teachers to leave the profession.

Homeschool families take control of their children’s education. They control the environment, the class size, how long to spend on each topic, how to teach, what to teach, and who is included in the socialization of their children. They can speed up or slow down, tailoring the lessons to the child. They can cater content to the interests of the child, which increases engagement, which increases the connections children make to content and the world. Field trips can be done at any time, to any place, making real-life connections and expanding background knowledge. Children are shielded from inappropriate content, ideas, or language, and can remain innocent longer. Those who have a specific religious worldview can freely integrate those ideas into curriculum and practices. Public schools are increasingly becoming less responsive to parental input. As a homeschooler, you get to determine what, where, how, when, and why your child learns, you are the driver.

So, how do you do this? This is not easy. It can be intimidating and challenging. Where do you start? What do you do? I’ve been approached by many parents who are disillusioned with public schools and have heard their questions and fears. I do not have all the answers, but know how to teach and have a goal to provide some kind of framework for teaching at home, as well as resources that will help. There are a lot of great things out there, available to any parent, and often at no charge. In this site, I will try to share what I know and lead you to some resources. I will continually update and add to this site, and try to make this journey easier.

The main thing is, take a deep breath and tell yourself that you can do this!
